There were probably no plans at the time to release every single Iowa-class ship. When the game was originally released in 2015, Iowa was one of the original US battleships in the game. Most players choose radar, thus leaving the catapults empty. This is because (for gameplay purposes) the player has to choose between using radar, or a scout aircraft. It is common to see US Navy cruisers in the game have an empty catapult. In the game, the Missouri is not able to equip catapult aircraft, but Wargaming did not have to remove the catapults entirely. In reality, during during World War II, all Iowa-class battleships were able to launch float planes. The Missouri is also missing the aircraft catapults on the stern. However, as indicated by the red circle on Missouri‘s in-game model, it is missing the three 20mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft cannons shown in the 1945 picture. Note the sea spray windows on the 05, and lack of a flag bridge. The Missouri does have the sea spray windows on the 05 level, and also lacks the flag bridge, in-game and in reality. The Missouri does have the sea spray windows on the 05 level in-game and in reality. Wargaming modeled the Missouri with correct and incorrect details as well. Anti-aircraft guns missing in the game are boxed in red.

USS Missouri (left) and USS Iowa (right) off of Japan, August 20, 1945. Third, the Iowa is missing its anti-aircraft nest of three 20mm Oerlikons on top of Turret 2. The small windows in the conning tower are missing on the Iowa’s 3D model.

The Iowa is the only Iowa-class battleship to be designed with a purposefully built flag bridge for a fleet admiral. No sea spray windows, nor evidence of where the window mountings could have been.

World of Warships is a naval combat game developed by Wargaming.Īs much as I love World of Warships, there are small details on Iowa and Missouri which bother me every time I boot up the game.įirst, the sea spray windows on the 05 level.
